Garden Tour by Season
Since we purchased the Haughton-McIver house we have focused on renovations and interior design to present this wonderfully restored home to the public for tours and functions. We opened in 2006 and received Chatham County’s Chamber of Commerce Rookie Business of the Year award. We have enjoyed weddings, bridal luncheons, and other social functions. Bellehavre was displayed for the County’s Christmas tour, and received tours from historical groups, antique clubs, garden clubs, retired teachers and of course the Red Hats. Now, we are pleased to expand our interests through our landscape and gardens. Our landscaped yards and flower gardens will surely enhance any event you have in mind creating a colorful, beautiful and peaceful setting.
SPRING AT BELLEHAVRE 2010
In early Spring, the house is adorned by established spring flowering trees and shrubs that bring bright hope to the planting season. The property is aglow with color from magnolias, cherry plum trees, dogwoods and redbuds. In late March, the front Bradford Pear trees display their magnificence.

The borders of the property are lined with established landscaping forming privacy bounderies and dotted color throughout.

SUMMER AT BELLEHAVRE 2010
The borders of the property continue to bloom into the Summer becoming alive with crape myrtles, butterfly bushes and rose of sharon.

PLANT AND FLOWER GARDENS
SPRING THROUGH FALL
In addition to our landscaped borders, Bellehavre displays numerous plant and flower gardens. In a walk through our gardens you will find a variety of beds which include a Victorian garden, butterfly, rose, fairy, sun, shade, rock, herb, and vegetable garden. We'll be uploading photos of all the beds at the end of the season.
Just for fun, we display our fairy garden. Much to our dismay, our 200+ year old white oak died this year and as we cut it down we decided to keep the trunk for a few years. What a perfect setting for a wee fairy garden. We were very pleased to find an Ebay store called Jullians Origianl Fairie Houses who hand makes fairy garden items out of clay fired in her own kiln.

FALL AT BELLEHAVRE 2009
The established trees, both deciduous and evergreen, display the glory of Autumn.

October produces seeds to feed the birds during the cold season from our
Barberry bushes, grand Magnolia tree, and English Hollies.

The property features a grand 50-foot Magnolia gradiflora “Majestic Beauty” and an equally aged Pine. Both trees are listed by the National Registry of Historic Places as part of the preservation of the property.

While the flowers of spring and summer have faded, our entrance garden awakens with hints of sprintime spirit as it features fall flowering evergreen shrubs such as the Camellia Ofeifera, WIlliam Hunter Red and Pink Serenande Sasanqua.
October still displays reblooms from our Cannas and a budding Gardenia joins
the fall spectacle of the Spider Lily.

The bold colors of the Chinese Witchhazel in one garden is in sharp contrast to the soft whisper of the Gulf Muhlygrass in another.

We wait now with anticipation for the first signs of next Spring showing the flowering buds of our Yellow Lady Banks Rose Vine across an arbor, the stunning ornamental display of our front Bradford Pear and Cherry Plum Trees. It is then that our new gardens within these landscaped borders will begin their magical parade yet again.

Garden Friends Share (GFS)
During the planning and planting stages of our gardens, I enjoyed participating in a Yahoo group called Garden Friends Share (GFS). They have been invaluable in providing timely advice, sharing information and techniques, and sharing their flowers in trade from all areas of the United States. The group bonds with a simple focus: to add to the enjoyment and beauty of each other's gardens while chatting as friends. They are open for membership. If you are smitten with gardening, beginner or Master, this group is for you. To join, click here: Garden Friends Share
