Why Not Have a Victorian Wedding?

The Victorian Era is the eclectic time period between the mid and late 19th century, covering the 64-year reign of Queen Victoria (1837-1901) over England. Though Queen Victoria's reign ended after her death in 1901, the era which bore her name continued for several more years, creating styles, fashions, and symbols of a gilded age, rich with elegance, splendor, and romance. BelleHavre restored this magnificent mid-century plantation home to its original construction and expanded its interior décor to display the rich diversity of Victorian styles and the incomparable glamour of a bygone era.  With great emphasis on detail, you will surely be enchanted by many interesting, beautiful and historical scenes providing just a small glimpse into the grace and beauty of the times.

The Victorian wedding is of considerable interest to social and fashion historians, antique collectors and especially those who want to inject a sense of tradition and grace into their modern weddings. Victorian traditions were steeped in superstition and age-old customs, some of which are followed in various ways today.  Some by-gone customs can make interesting novelties at a Victorian theme wedding. Actually, many of our current wedding customs have been passed along from the Victorian era. Everything about the Victorian wedding is lush with elegance and brides get to indeed be a princess on this most special day. If you've always loved the Victorian era and elegant old-fashioned style, why not have a Victorian wedding?

What Our Site Offers

We offer our historical home as an authentically, era-decorated wedding site enabling wedding planners, caterers and florists a luxurious palette to create an Old South wedding or a lavish Victorian theme. We provide outside tented areas surrounded by beautiful gardens in bloom from April through September. Portrait scenes are abundant. Use of the property includes ample free parking, expansive tent areas with water and electric hookups, wedding rehearsal space, catering warm-up areas, spacious bride/groom dressing areas, ceremony opportunities with balcony for quartet, outside reception areas for large weddings and inside accommodations for small quaint weddings, baby-grand piano, tours, and two suites for overnight guests. Local liveried coachman with horse and carriage is also available.

The Only Limit is Your Imagination

As the sunshine of spring days warm our spirits and the greening grasses are graced with colorful flowers, the wedding season begins. It is a time traditionally thought of as a celebration of love and new life. The Victorian Garden theme appeals to couples who are looking to display their romantic nature while offering extravagant elegance in a comfortable environment. The gardens, southern porches and balconies lend easily to wedding ceremonies that lead directly into the reception. Many couples are opting to have the entire celebration in a Southern home; not only is it beautiful, it becomes a touching, bonding experience that brings entire families together.

Think of crystals and fringe dripping from every possible source, from chandeliers and lamps to candlesticks. Think piano player in the background, tapping out a Mozart sonata, or something more intimate by Liszt or Chopin. A string quartet would also be common. Think men in black tails and white gloves, peering over spectacles at their polished pocket watches. Think of enormous Lady Ferns, a Victorian favorite, arching over wraparound porches. Want a more simplistic wedding; think of draped lace with floral arrangements and your family piano player playing favorite tunes: we have all the ambiance and basic decor you need or you can add floral displays and decorations for an elaborate affair. When you have just the right picture in your mind, think about BelleHavre, an historic home of the times.

Why Choose Bellehavre?

Whether you are on a limited budget or planning a Victorian extravaganda, we provide you with all the background and ambiance you need while providing the flexibility for extragavance. From the spacious manicured lawns, perennial gardens and southern porches to fine china, crystal chandeliers, marble flooring, baby-grand piano, ladies parlor, and fine antiques, your wedding will be remembered forever by all.
